The craftsmanship behind our candles reflects our appreciation for thoughtful design. To ensure the longevity of your Seven Sages scent, we recommend the following:
The initial burning and your candles burn memory.
Did you know candles hold memories? They do (in more ways than one). Your candle will remember where it is burnt up to on the first day it is lit and will only ever burn up to the point it was last extinguished.
This is why your first burn is an important event, as your candle establishes its ‘burn memory’.
When lighting your candle for the first time, keep the candle burning for no more than four hours and ensure the wax melts across the entire surface. This will prevent ‘tunnelling’, and set up your candle for successful burns in the future. where the centre of the candle is much lower than the rim.
Keep your wick trimmed.
One of the easiest—and yet most often overlooked—steps in candle care. Trimming the wick is essential for a clean, even burn. You’ll get the most out of your candle if you keep the wick short (around 6mm or less).
Maintain clarity.
Clean candles burn better. Like most household items, keeping your candle clean will optimise its longevity. Over time, stray wax, dust, and other debris can start to accumulate inside the candle's container. If they’re close enough to the wick, they can cause the candle to overheat. A clean candle makes for a clean beautifully scented burn.
Handle the soot.
It is normal for candles to develop character as they burn and over time they may change in colour as the fragrance interacts with the oxygen in the air when burning. This will not affect the scent of your candle. However, to keep the candle container soot-free, we recommend wiping the inside regularly with a clean, slightly damp cloth.
Once your candle has completed its final burn, simply wash the vessel in hot water and dispose of any excess wax in the bin. This porcelain vessel can now be repurposed for storage of your favourite jewellery or beloved treasures.
Store in a cool place.
Avoid direct sunlight to ensure your scented candle maintains its fragrance and always store your candles in a cool, dry place. Temperature fluctuations and light can speed up the aging process, so try to keep your candles somewhere cool or at room temperature to extend the life of your handcrafted candles.
